JNU row: Don’t take steps that could negatively impact J&K, says Mehbooba Mufti
“I hope and I will request the Government of India that nothing should happen that would have a negative impact on Jammu and Kashmir, where the situation is already bad,” Mehbooba said.
As the controversy over alleged anti-national speeches made recently on JNU campus continued, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti Sunday cautioned the Centre against taking any step that would have a “negative impact” on Jammu and Kashmir.
While Mehbooba questioned “politicising” of the issue, she was guarded in her statement blaming both “nationalists” and “secularists”, as well as a section of the media, for the worsening situation surrounding the renowned university.

“I hope and I will request the Government of India that nothing should happen that would have a negative impact on Jammu and Kashmir, where the situation is already bad,” Mehbooba told the media during an interaction following her public address in Srinagar.
Mehbooba said political parties should stay away from the JNU issue and the case should be left for courts to solve. “There are many people (responsible for the crisis in JNU)… you cannot hold only one responsible,” she said. “Now, it has come to known that the video (which claimed to show arrested JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar allegedly shouting “anti-national” slogans) was doctored. Why was a doctored video aired? Then politicians jumped in… It was politicised.”
