Farmer kills seven members of family before committing suicide in Gujarat

Shravan Kanar (36) allegedly killed his wife Shanta, two sons, three daughters and one-year-old granddaughter at his house.

A 36-year-old farm labourer allegedly killed seven of his family members, including his one-year-old grand-daughter, before committing suicide at Nani Kosamdi village on Sunday.

According to Valsad police control room in-charge Karansinh Parmar, a team of local police including Dharampur police inspector Chirag Tandel had reached the spot and started the investigation.

“Primary investigation revealed that all of them were hacked to death by Shravan with a sickle, who then committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling. He worked as a farm labourer. We are yet to find out the reason behind the act,” said inspector Tandel.

Apart from his wife Shanta (35), other victims were the couple’s son Akshay (15) and Viral (12), daughters Yamuna (19), Hemku (17) and Sheela (14), and Yamuna’s daughter Priti (1).

“Yamuna is married, but she had come to live at her father’s house recently with her daughter Priti. Shravan might have got married at an early age,” said Tandel.
