Dhavale (59) committed suicide by hanging himself on Friday morning. Of the two separate notes reportedly found on Dhavale, one was addressed to the inspector of Dokhi police station and the other was addressed to “voters”.
The numbers tell a different story. And, given the detrimental impact on credit discipline, not to mention the hole such waivers are going to blow in state budgets, politicians would be wise to rethink their plans.
"Someone has illegally captured a panchayat plot outside the agricultural land belonging to the farmer, making it hard for him to enter his own land. Orders had already been issued by the collector to remove the encroachment but local authorities have not acted upon it," the SP said.
The loss of cotton crop due to a pest attack is suspected to be the prime reason behind the farmer taking the extreme step, the police said. A police official said a purported suicide note was also recovered.

“The land of 138 farmers was acquired under the Land Acquisition Act and they should move court as per norms for seeking higher compensation. But they haven’t moved court. Still, we have decided to grant an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh per hectare to all these farmers,” said Bawankule.
