Three days after the grand Trishul Diksha event organised by the VHP and the Bajrang Dal in the presence of VHP leader Pravin Togadia, two groups clashed in Jambusar over removal of saffron flags from Muslim-dominated areas on Tuesday. The Jambusar police booked four persons in this regard. The police, however, termed it as an “isolated” incident.
Groups from two communities clashed at the Mirza Cold Drink house on the Ring Road behind ST Bus Depot in Jambusar on Tuesday evening. According to eye-witnesses, Jaideep Patel, alias Jigar, and his friends were questioning four Muslim youths about the missing saffron flags from the poles in the area.
Soon after the incident, Jaideep was rushed to the SSG hospital in Vadodara, accompanied by Bajrang Dal activists, where he is being treated for external injuries.

An officer of the Jambusar police said, “The victim has told us that the fight began after they received news about the saffron flags being taken down by some boys belonging to the Muslim community in the area.
When the victim went to question the accused, they assaulted him.” The officer, who did not wish to be identified, said that the town had been tense since the VHP rally on Friday.
The VHP had installed saffron flags around town, including in Muslim-dominated areas. An officer added that the Muslims had objected to the flags being put up in their area on Thursday night as Friday was also the first Friday of Ramzan.
Although the event went off smoothly, the outfit did not remove the flags. The police have booked a case for assault and criminal intimidation against four persons under several sections of the IPC.
Two of the accused have been identified as Irshad Mirza and Irfan Mirza. Police said a probe was on to identify the other two accused in the case.
