Bengaluru: Chancellor of Alliance University arrested on charges of rape

The complainant has alleged that her daughter was sexually abused between 2011 to 2014 while she was employed at the university.

A 60-year-old chancellor of the private Alliance University in Bengaluru has been arrested by the police in South Bengaluru for allegedly raping his 32-year-old niece who was an employee at the university between 2011 and 2014.

Police arrested Dr Madhukar G Angur, a reputed academician, based on a complaint filed by his sister, the mother of the alleged victim.

The complainant has alleged that her daughter was sexually abused between 2011 to 2014 while she was employed at the university. The accused threatened the victim against revealing the nature of their relationship to anyone resulting in the delayed filing of the complaint , the complainant has stated.

The case emerged after the victim’s mother found her in state of depression and took her for treatment where she revealed her trauma, says the complaint.

The police detained Dr Angur at his residence on Friday and subsequently arrested him. The chancellor has told the police that he has been framed in the rape case on account of a property dispute between him and his sister.

Dr Angur has been remanded to judicial custody by a court. The chancellor of the Alliance University has won many awards for his contribution to the field of education in India.
