Three persons were killed and 24 others injured when a balcony on which several people had gathered to witness a religious procession collapsed in Bairam Nagar village, police said Thursday.
SP (Rural) Bareilly Yamuna Prasad said the incident took place when a ‘Chehallum procession’ was passing by Bairam Nagar locality at around 6 pm, when suddenly the balcony of a house owned by Mohammad Mobin collapsed as it could not bear the weight of more than 20 people standing there.
Ten others standing under the balcony on the road too bore the impact as they got trapped under the debris, added Prasad.
He further said policemen and locals removed the debris and rushed the injured to the hospital. “Zakir Hussain (25) and Tasleem (20) died before reaching the hospital while Gulshan and Shabbir Khan succumbed to injuries during treatment on Thursday,” said SP Rural.
