Several AAP workers on Sunday blocked a road in south Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area while protesting the arrest of party’s Okhla MLA Amantullah Khan, following which a case has been registered against them for allegedly preventing the movement of an emergency vehicle, police said.
The protest led to traffic jam in the area. Agitated with the agitation, a number of commuters also had heated arguments with AAP workers, they said.
Police tried to convince AAP workers to lift the road block so that a car in which a patient was being taken to a hospital could pass but they continued with their protest, said a senior police officer.
Following which, a case was registered against them, he added.
AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested earlier in the day in connection with an incident which allegedly took place on July 10 when a 35-year-old woman went to his residence in South Delhi’s Batla House locality after a telephonic conversation with him to complain about poor electricity supply in the area. The complainant has alleged that a supporter of Khan abused her on the orders of the AAP MLA.
She has also alleged that she was being threatened by him for registering a case at Jamia Nagar Police station. She alleged that a car, in which the MLA was sitting, tried to run over her.
