L-18 owner suspended for ‘irregularities’

The owner of L-18, Batla House, where the Delhi Police shot down two suspected terrorists, Atif and Sajid, has been suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government. Mohsin Nisar works as an executive engineer with the public works department in Ghaziabad.

Government officials, however, did not link his suspension to the encounter. They claimed to have detected irregularities in the work he supervised as executive engineer with the National Highway division.

According to official sources, the letter of suspension was dispatched on September 19, the same day the encounter took place in his house in Jamia Nagar.

According to Ghaziabad District Magistrate Deepak Aggarwal, an inquiry was constituted six months ago to check whether allegations of irregularities in the NH project were true. “The executive engineer was charged for the irregularities and his letter of suspension was dispatched on September 19. We are yet to receive the letter, but I have the confirmation of his suspension,” Aggarwal said.

While Nissar could not be contacted, the UP Police said he had been detained by the Delhi Police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) H G S Dhaliwal, however, said Nissar was not in their custody. “Nisar filed a complaint against Rehman, the caretaker of L-18, for cheating him. He said he did not know that his tenants were not verified as per law,” he said.

Abdul Rehman, the caretaker and father of Zia-ur-Rehman, who was among the three persons arrested on Sunday, has been arrested on charges of forgery and cheating.

Abdul Rehman was Nisar’s stenographer, sources said.
