Celebrities turn up in support of Mahira Khan and Ranbir Kapoor after their photos of smoking together go viral
As Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan get trolled for smoking together, people from the entertainment industry including Rishi Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Varun Dhawan and Ali Zafar come out in support of the actors.

Ranbir Kapoor’s photos with Raees actor Mahira Khan from when they were in New York City created quite a stir on social media. While many wanted the two stars to make their alleged relationship official, there were those who had a problem with Mahira wearing a backless dress and smoking on the streets despite being a muslim mother of a son. Further, these photos of hers got her entry into the list of female actors who got slut-shamed by Twitterati. This time though, people from the entertainment industry were quick to come out in support of their colleagues.
Pakistani Singer Ali Zafar wrote an open letter, where he clearly said that women have all the rights to make their own choices in life just like men do. He wrote, “Every woman has the right to make her own choices in life (as long as she’s not hurting anyone else) just like we men do.” Adding to it he writes, “How we react defines our own character. Choose wisely as we SHALL be judged.” Ali who was last seen in Dear Zindagi also questioned the sensibility of people. “What has happened to us? Have lost all sense of sensibility?” wrote Ali.
Parineeti Chopra who launched the trailer of her next film, Golmaal Again, in Mumbai on Friday was also asked if it is fair to troll a woman for wearing a short dress and smoking. To this, the actor-singer said, “It is quite unfair, everybody knows it is unfair, and it will stop. Today, because of social media, everything becomes too big a deal.” As reported by PTI, Varun Dhawan too was disgusted with the reaction of many on Mahira’s photos and he said, “Shame on them for shaming her.”
Also, Rishi Kapoor was also contacted by Hindustan Times to ask him opinion on all the speculations going around his son’s private life. Initially, the actor got angry and asked all to keep him out of this, but later he told the publication, “I only saw them on Twitter, not on Instagram or Facebook because I am only on Twitter. It’s not that I saw these pictures before or I know anything about this already. You see, Ranbir is a young star, he is unmarried, he’s a bachelor. He can meet anybody whoever he wants to, and if people are going to invade his privacy, it’s not done. And I can’t say anything about all this because he’s a young man and he has the choice of meeting any girl.”
Calling the rumours of Ranbir dating Mahira rubbish and baseless, the veteran actor says, “If they were dating or seeing each other, wouldn’t people in Mumbai know? If they met in New York in July when Ranbir was shooting for Hirani’s film, wouldn’t we all know by now? Would we not have new pictures here in Mumbai? So, these rumours are only dumb.”
Jesus. Can we please give @TheMahiraKhan a break?! Why are we so quick to judge and attack?! Esp if it’s a woman in question. It’s her life!
