Advocates stage protest inside CJM court over online traffic challan system

Nearly 100 advocates staged a protest inside the courtroom of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Chandigarh on Wednesday against the recent shift of traffic challan settlement from the traditional court-based process to an online-only mechanism.

The advocates said the new system has created widespread inconvenience for both lawyers and the general public.

As per existing rules, traffic challans pending for more than three months are required to be transferred automatically to the court for settlement. However, this process has not been functioning, resulting in pending challans remaining stuck online without any judicial remedy.

Frustrated by the growing backlog and lack of clarity, the group of lawyers reached the CJM’s courtroom in the afternoon seeking an immediate resolution. When no satisfactory response was provided, the advocates sat on a protest inside the courtroom for nearly half an hour.
