Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira has seen as many highs and lows during its short stay at the box office as its female protagonist. The film opened at Rs 5.15 crore, which was less than expected before it saw a marginal increase on Saturday by clocking Rs 5.3 crore on Saturday.

It was Sunday that the film saw a surge and collected Rs 6.2 crore on the box office. However, the Sonakshi Sinha, Anurag Kashyap film passed the all-important Monday test by earning Rs 3.4 crore at the domestic BO.

This brings the total earning of the film to Rs 20.05 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday, “#Akira Fri 5.15 cr, Sat 5.30 cr, Sun 6.20 cr, Mon 3.40 cr. Total: ₹ 20.05 cr. India biz. STEADY!”

Traditionally, films with a female protagonist fail to work at the BO with a few notable exceptions. If Sonakshi and AR Murugadoss film can subvert the trend, it would be a big achievement.

Taran also wrote that the film has done decent business at the international box office. “#Akira does decent biz Overseas… Opening weekend: $ 867,000 [₹ 5.76 cr]… Best in UAE-GCC [$ 425,000] and Pakistan [$ 118,000].”

The film met with mixed response at the BO. However, the film only has this week to recoup its costs as next week brings in its wake two big films, Sidharth Malhotra-Katrina Kaif-starrer Baar Baar Dekho and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Freaky Ali.
