Known as one of Bollywood’s coolest actors, Boman Irani celebrates his birthday on Tuesday (December 2). The actor, who turns 55 today, is not only known for his brilliant humour and easy-going charm, but also for his body of work in both, film and theatre. Before getting into films, Boman Irani began his career onstage. He was passionate about acting from a young age and trained under acting coach Hansraj Siddhia from 1981 to 1983 and also adopted professional acting methods inspired by his friend Mahan Shri Chandan kr. Singh. Theatre personality, Alyque Padamsee mentored Irani who made his earliest theatrical appearance was in Roshni where he played a cameo at the Regional Theatre in Versova. He also appeared in serials like ‘Family Ties’ and ‘Mahatma vs Gandhi’. His most illustrious play till date has been ‘I am not Bajirao’ which ran for 10 years. The actor, who is greatly appreciated for his roles in comedy films, is well remembered for his performance in ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, where he played the role of Dr. JC Ashthana. He was hilarious in Aamir Khan starrer ‘3 Idiots’ as well, where he portrayed the strict college director, Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe – better known as ‘Virus’. He garnered much acclaim for his performance and was honoured with a Filmfare Award Best Supporting Actor. The actor was last seen in Farah Khan’s multi-starrer, ‘Happy New Year’, along with Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah.
