The developers have formed companies and would focus on road construction, sewage treatment plants and solid waste management on a no-profit-no-loss basis.
To speed up effective development of the area under its jurisdiction, the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Autho-rity (PMRDA) has promoted non-profit companies to take up responsibility on its behalf to provide basic civic amenities.
After the PMRDA board of directors approved the policy of getting private partnership for developing civic infrastructure, commissioner Mahesh Zagade recently issued directions to implement the same. “PMRDA is yet to have a full set-up to undertake projects to provide basic amenities to citizens. The initiative has already begun with the formation of Pirangut Valley Development Forum,” said Sunil Wandhekar, chief engineer, PMRDA.
Wandhekar said that the PMRDA would be focusing on planned development but it would take time for the authority to deliver basic civic amenities as the jurisdiction under its control is witnessing rapid development. “It is recommended that real estate builders having projects in a particular area come together and form a company. The legal and administrative support would be provided by PMRDA while the implementation of the projects would be done by the company with its own investment,” he said.

As per the initiative, similar companies have been formed for Sus-Mahalunge and Hinjewadi-Mann villages, while another for Keshavanagar would be formed soon. “The PMRDA would have the technical as well as other control over the projects. The company would run on no profit or loss basis,” Wandhekar added.
Sachin Kulkarni, director, Pirangut Valley Development Forum, said that the company has 25 developers and it would operate in the four villages of Pirangut, Kasaramboli, Urawade and Bhare covering 1,000 acres. “We are starting with water supply and are in process of finalising the development project report for the purpose. The funding would be done by developers in the ratio of their real estate projects in the area,” he said, adding that water supply would be provided on a prepaid basis to each consumer.
The company would later focus on road construction, sewage treatment plants and solid waste management. A total of 452 building projects are coming up in the area with an estimated population of 6.5 lakh. The PMRDA would be making arrangements for water from the irrigation department. The plan is to establish drinking water supply capacity of 100 MLD but it would be increased in phases starting with 30 MLD.
