Pune: 3 pilgrims killed after jeep falls into trench

Pune rural police have identified the deceased as Tarabai Bhojane (55), Sakhubai Bhavari (35) and Girju Bhavari (70), all residents of Akole Taluka of Ahmednagar district.

Three pilgrims from Ahmednagar district, who were on their way to Mandhardevi in Satara, were killed and 13 more were injured after the jeep they were travelling in fell into a roadside trench in Bhor in Pune district on Tuesday around 6 am.

Pune rural police have identified the deceased as Tarabai Bhojane (55), Sakhubai Bhavari (35) and Girju Bhavari (70), all residents of Akole Taluka of Ahmednagar district. Police said that the driver of the jeep, Datta Bhangare, lost control of the vehicle near Harishchandri, in Bhor Taluke, on Pune Satara Highway and fell into a roadside trench, killing the three on the spot.

Police said that three of the 13 injured were critical.
