Maharashtra govt proposes 43 cities for AMRUT project
The major paramters of the project is to provide every household in these cities basic amenities, water supply, sewerage, infrastructure, rainharvesting projects and others.
The state government Wednesday decided to implement the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) for which 43 cities have been shortlisted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious AMRUT project has provisions to upgrade 500 cities/towns between 2015 and 2019. The centre is providing Rs 1,000 crore for its implementation in Maharashtra.
The major paramters of the project is to provide every household in these cities basic amenities, water supply, sewerage, infrastructure, rainharvesting projects, open space, transport, green city minus pollution, land bank and housing to enhance standard of living.
The cities proposed under AMRUT include Mumbai, Pune, Kalyan-Dombivali, Meera-Bhayandar, Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Vasai-Virar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Malegaon, Nagpur, Bhusawal, Barshi, Satara, Sangli-Miraz, Kolhapur, Icchalkaranji, Parbhani, Jalna, Akola, Beed, Latur, Udgir, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Nanded, Badlapur, Panvel. Dhule, Ahmednagar, Chandrapur, Raigad, Osmanabad, Waghala, Gondia, Nashik, Solapur, Amravati, Achalpur, Wardha, Hinganghat and Jalgaon.
As per the centre’s guidelines, a city with a population of more than ten lakh would be entitled for 33.33 per cent funds from the centre, and the state’s contribution would be 16.67 per cent and local bodies would put in 50 per cent. For a city/town with a population of less than ten lakh, the centre’s contribution would be 50 per cent, state will put in 25 per cent and local bodies 25 per cent.
