A Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) wet lease bus at Malvani depot caught fire at around 2.55 pm on Friday. No injury has been reported in the fire.

As per BEST, bus 6347 (MH-01-BR-1810) of TATA Motors Ltd (wet lease) caught fire while it was parked at Malvani depot. Immediately, the fire brigade was called and the fire was doused.

The bus had completed a 53-km run from morning on route 359 and had arrived at the depot at 1 pm. BEST has initiated an investigation to understand the cause of the fire.

In February, BEST had decided to withdraw 400 CNG run buses from service after three fire incidents were reported.

Speaking on the incident, a Tata Motors spokesperson said, “An isolated thermal incident took place while the BEST bus was being charged at Malvani depot.

There were no injuries and minimal damage. We took immediate action and will closely work with local authorities to identify the cause, and accordingly take remedial actions.” In Mumbai, Tata has been operating 340 e-buses for BEST for nearly 2 years.
