I agree that there is some problem within the leadership here but I am hopeful that with collective leadership and by undertaking activities at quick successions, we can unitely build a family. It is also true that our presence in West Bengal is limited and inconsistent. I agree that unity within the party is lacking and I feel sorry for the prevalant problems within the organisation. But it becomes the duty of whoever is at the helm of affairs to deal with these and find a way out.

What do you intend to do to address these issues within the party leadership ?

I will ask all Congress leaders and cadres to get involved in party activities and programmes. We need to conduct a team-building exercise here. The role of AICC is to monitor, guide and correct the state leadership without interfering in their affairs.

Are you satisfied with the kind of response the bandh got yesterday?

Other than the internal differences within the Congress, the poor show during the bandh on Tuesday was owing to the terror tactics of Trinamool Congress. The Congress workers are terrified of the violence unleashed by the Mamata Banerjee-led government. People have been falsely implicated, beaten up and even killed. There is a situation of utter lawlessness in the state which has to be dealt with as well.
