Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Thursday criticised the current reforms “being imposed” on universities, and claimed that the government was planning to promote privatisation through measures like Common Universities Bill (CUB) and the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
Maken was speaking at a panel discussion organised at Delhi University by a Congress-backed teachers’ group about the alleged intervention of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in institutions of higher education.

The discussion witnessed serious concerns raised by Randip S Surjewala, chairperson, AICC communications department, Maken himself, Roji M John, president, NSUI and Mahabal Mishra, former MP.
“The government of the day is not only attacking the institutions of higher education systematically, but also taking away the right to ask questions and right to get answers. CUB will take away autonomy and convert teachers into clerks,” said Surjewala.
