20-year-old hit by police bullet during protest, claims his brother

Police further maintained that a rioting case under IPC sections 147, 148 and 149 has been registered against the protesters, but no arrests have been made so far.

Less than 12 hours after a 50-year-old man was beaten to death by residents of Bisara village in Dadri, following rumours about cow slaughter and beef consumption, protests erupted in the area. As protesters clashed with police, a 20-year-old welder who works at the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) station in Dadri received a bullet injury.

The demonstration, which began around 9 am, continued for an hour. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dadri) Anurag Singh, said, “In order to bring the situation under control and disperse the crowd, police resorted to lathicharge. There were around 200 to 300 protesters.”

While the police confirmed that Rahul Yadav, the welder, had received a bullet injury on his lower hip, they denied allegations that a shot had been fired by police personnel deployed there. “These are allegations. No policeman fired a gun. We are investigating the matter. We will examine the nature of the bullet and thereby the model of the gun from which it was fired,” said Kiran S, SSP (Gautam Budh Nagar).

According to Yadav’s brother, who claimed to be an eyewitness to the incident, the incident took place at about 10 am on Tuesday. “My brother was on his way to work and I was with him at that time. On our way, we saw a group of 300 to 500 people protesting… We got caught in the clash. As we tried to get away, a gun was fired by a police officer and it hit my brother on his lower hip,” said Narendra Yadav.
