Prince was first taken to a nearby private nursing home, where he was declared brought dead.
A class VII student died after his classmate allegedly hit his head on the classroom wall in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar Thursday morning, police said. The incident took place when the students were attending an extra class, police said, adding that no teacher was present in the class at the time of the incident. The family has alleged that the boy had objected to being bullied.
DCP (northeast) AK Singla told The Indian Express that the boy has been identified as 13-year-old Prince aka Avdhesh. “We have apprehended the accused classmate and booked him for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. We have also recorded the statements of some students who were witness to the incident. We are now trying to verify the allegations,” Singla said.
Police said the incident took place around 9.30 am inside a classroom at Saraswati Gyan Public School, a private unaided institution upto Class VIII in Shiv Vihar, Karawal Nagar. Police, however, said they were alerted only at 11.30 am. Despite repeated attempts, Visheshwar Baghel, the owner of the school, who is also the principal, refused to respond calls and messages from The Indian Express.
Prince’s father, Arvind Kumar, who runs a tailoring shop, alleged, “Had the teachers been in the class, my son would have saved. The school authorities and teachers should also be brought under the scanner.” Prince’s younger brother, Vansh, who studies in Class VI at the same school, said he rushed to his classroom soon after he heard about the incident. “I rushed to Prince’s classroom but then it was too late,” he said.
Prince was first taken to a nearby private nursing home, where he was declared brought dead. Police said that they have already questioned some teachers in connection with the case, and have and sealed the classroom, where the incident took place. The body has been sent for autopsy, scheduled to be conducted on Friday, police said.
After the incident, Prince’s family and relatives arrived at the school and demonstrated against the school administration. Prince used to live near the school with his parents, brother and four sisters, police said, adding that the accused student also lives in the same locality.
