The Chandigarh BJP has constituted its election committee in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls. The incharge of the city unit, Aarti Mehra, along with senior functionaries, on Wednesday held deliberations on the strategy for fighting the elections in the city. The party has also called upon all disgruntled leaders to come back into the party fold.
The state election committee would comprise Sanjay Tandon, Satya Pal Jain, Harmohan Dhawan, Prem Kaushik, Chandershekhar, Arun Sood, Jairam Joshi, Yash Pal Mahajan and Kamla Sharma. The committee would also have the ex-officio members Arti Mehra, Ajay Jamwal and Sunita Dhawan.
Raghubir Lal Arora was appointed as parliamentary seat guardian, a concept recently introduced in the BJP. Arun Sood and Ramvir Bhatti would be the parliamentary conveners. A disciplinary committee under the presidentship of Desraj Tandon with Om Prakash Goyal, Satinder Singh, Parveen Goyal and Mukesh Kaushik as members was also announced by her.
Mehra said that people see a ray of hope in Narendra Modi. Keeping the mission of 272+ in mind several party workers who were not happy with the party or due to some disappointment had been alienated from party mainstream have announced their unconditional return to the party. She exhorted the party workers to go door to door, get the people into the party ideology and make Mission 272+ a success. She said that in the coming elections all party workers would be united and ensure win in Chandigarh.
It was decided that Anil Dubey, who had been removed from the post of convener of the labour colony cell of the party, would be given back the charge.
Talking about the election issues in Chandigarh, she said that besides the rail bribery scam involving former union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, there are several unresolved and unaddressed problems of the industrialists, traders, employees, housing board houses, tenements, slum dwellers etc, which will ensure the victory of the BJP candidate.
Regarding the problems of the industrialists and other problems of the city, she said that several associations of traders and industrialists had met Venkiah Naidu, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee and apprised him of their problems. Naidu assured that he would take up these matters with the Home Ministry for their early resolution.
