ED nabs biggest cricket bookie from Gurgaon

The Enforcement Directorate, Ahmedabad on Friday busted one of the biggest cricket bookies in Gurgaon red-handed. This bookie is alleged to have connection with two Gujarat bookies who were recently caught by the ED following a raid in Vadodara.
According to sources in the central agency, it has caught one Rithesh Bansal who is known as “Bharat Delhi”. The ED officials caught Bansal along with 250 cell phones and 12 laptops from the spot. Bansal was caught red-handed while betting on the ongoing IPL match. Sources said that following the raid, officials searched four premises located in Delhi and Gurgaon simultaneously. Sources said that the investigation is on and new revelation is likely to come that has connection with a big betting racket involved in money laundering in locations such as Dubai, Pakistan and some other countries.

About two months ago, ED officials had busted a racket in Vaododara and arrested over a dozen persons red-handed along with 100 cell phones among other gadgets. Among the accused are two history-sheeter accused bookies identified as Tommy Patel and Kiran Patel who are alleged to have links with international bookies. This was the first case when ED busted a cricket betting racket ever. Following the case, four policemen have already been suspended. Apart from a betting case lodged by local police, the accused have also been booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). According to rough estimates the racket is involved a staggering Rs 4,000 crore worth transaction of illicit money.
According to sources, the betting racket has been on and on an average generating Rs 20 crore per match during the recently concluded cricket World Cup. The accused are said to have been betting along with their counterparts in Dubai and Pakistan.
