Doctor attempts suicide over marital discord

Bhavna,a resident of Tarsadi village in Olpad taluka of Surat district,is a practicing doctor. She had contacted Sachin Shah for finding a suitable match for her. Her preference was a doctor or engineer.

Sachin introduced her to Sanjay Mehta; and the two tied the knot three years ago and settled down in Surat. Bhavna also started her dispensary near her house. But a few months into the marriage,Bhavna learnt that she had been cheated,as her husband was not an engineer and was unemployed.

She came to terms with the fact,but was peeved to see Sanjay’s reluctance to go job hunting. Trouble started between the couple a year ago,as Bhavna had to run the house. She had married Sanjay without her parents’ consent,due to which she never complained about her married life to her parents.

On Saturday,the two again quarrelled after Sanjay demanded some money for his personal expenses. Fed up of the regular quarrel,Bhavna tried to end her life by consuming sleeping pills. When Sanjay learnt about it,he rushed her to the Pramukh Swami Hospital.

Sub-Inspector L H Mahajan of Adajan police said: “On the basis of her statement,we have launched a search for the two accused. They are still at large. The picture will clear up after they are arrested.”

The Adajan police also informed that no case has been filed against Bhavna for attempted suicide.
