56-year-old commits suicide

A 56-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati River in the Ellisbridge area of Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

A 56-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati River in the Ellisbridge area of Ahmedabad on Wednesday. His body was found floating in the river near the Gujari Market area. Meanwhile,a woman attempted to commit suicide in the Shahpur area today.

Identifying the decased as Pradeep Katrani,a Vasna resident,Inspector P B Gadhvi,the investigating officer,said,“Katrani was jobless and remained at home most of the time. He had left his home the previous night and the family got suspicious on Wednesday morning. Although the family suspects he had committed suicide,they are not revealing the reasons behind his taking the extreme step.” In another case,a young woman consumed sleeping pills after she lost her patience to deal with her medical problems.

Afsana Saifee,a resident of Shahpur,was unwell for the last two weeks and as she felt helpless,she consumed sleeping pills on Tuesday afternoon. She was rushed to V S Hospital for treatment,the police said.

Saifee’s family,however,claimed she had consumed the sleeping pills by mistake,the police added. The police have registered both cases and begun investigations.
