2 held in Vadodara for transporting 5.7-tonne beef

Two persons were arrested by Vadodara police in connection with transporting 5.7 tonne beef from Godhra to Ahmedabad early on on Sunday.

Two persons were arrested by Vadodara police in connection with transporting 5.7 tonne beef from Godhra to Ahmedabad early on on Sunday.

The accused,Suleiman Guniya and Ayub Ghochu,were arrested after some city-based animal rights activists found a truck carrying the animal meat to Ahmedabad through Vadodara and lodged an FIR at Karelibaug police station.

The accused,who are from Godhra,accepted that the cows were slaughtered outside a slaughter house at a village in Godhra. “They have been booked under Section 6 (B) of the Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act that prevents a person from selling,transporting beef or beef products,” police said. Violation of the Act may earn a person seven years in prison.

They were also booked under Rule 3 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for killing cows outside a slaughter house,police said.
