In the editorial Be serious (IE,July 13),valuable advice has been given to Omar Abdullah with which he can control the volatile situation in Kashmir. His focus should be on connecting with the people. The protests have been instigated from within,maybe through the plans of anti-national forces. Identifying the culprits shouldnt be difficult,but they may be dealt with later at an appropriate time. The first aim should be the restoration of peace. The sore points agitating citizens must be addressed. Its the collective responsibility of all political parties and the intelligentsia they must put their heads together. Advisers and administrators must sincerely implement the measures finalised to obtain positive results on the ground. Seriously and sincerely making all the required efforts,Omar Abdullah can emerge successful and stronger.

The editorial Be serious rightly raises pertinent questions about the way the
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister has been handling the trouble in the Valley.
Incidentally,the army had indeed successfully brought calm and peace. With support from across the border,anti-national forces have again started takingadvantage of the situation. And to add fuel to the fire,any action by security personnel leads to further vitiating of the atmosphere. Sadly,an attempt by Omar Abdullah to call an all-party meet was thwarted by the PDPs refusal to join. Is this the way to deal with extremism in the Valley?

The editorial Eyes on ID (IE,July 12) has rightly stressed that the Central government must continue with and back its unique identification project with fully. This project can change the entire discourse of government schemes for the welfare of the poor. India loses a lot of money due to leakage and subsidies,as is the case with food and kerosene. This is the due to the inefficiency in targeting beneficiaries and widespread corruption and collusion along the supply chain. The implementation of the UID can lead to a high-quality beneficiary database without duplicate and ghost cards,improving the targeting of benefits. Even the implementation of NREGS will improve. It can also improve internal security.
