Congress MP and chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes P L Punia on Wednesday said he feared for his life during his visits to UP in the absence of an adequate security.
The Home Ministry had written to the UP government for providing security to me after obtaining the threat perception report from the Intelligence Bureau. The National Commission for SC has also written to the UP government for providing security but the state government has ignored, said Punia, adding that if anything happens to me,the Mayawati government will be solely responsible.
A retired IAS officer,Punia had been principal secretary to Mayawati during her three previous stints as chief minister in 1995,1997 and 2003. Punia alleged that the BSP-led UP government could stoop to any low to harm him.
