College authorities say one-third of B Com (Hons) seats at the college are bagged by students from this state
At the North Campus in Delhi University, students from Tamil Nadu are making waves. With their exceptional performance in the Class XII exams of Tamil Nadu State Board, many have bagged seats in some of the most coveted colleges.
According to Shri Ram College of Commerce estimates, out of all students admitted to their B Com (Hons) course,one-third are from Tamil Nadu. This includes one student who scored a perfect 100 per cent in her best-of-four subjects.
Economics (Hons) at SRCC also has many students from the region.
Not one-third,but a sizable number of students have come from Tamil Nadu this year for B Com (Hons) as the Tamil Nadu Board has had very good results, said Dr P C Jain, principal of SRCC. With SRCCs cut-off for B Com (Hons) set at 96 per cent,it is Tamil Nadus top scorers from the Commerce stream who have congregated at the college.
Priyanka Ilavazhakan, from Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu scored 99.12 per cent in Class XII and landed herself in B Com (Hons) at SRCC on the first day of admissions. The 17-year-old had heard much about SRCC and Delhi University, though she had completed all her education till then in Pudukkottai. I heard about the college from seniors who had studied here. They had all done pretty well for themselves, she said.
Vivek Sadasivam, from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu, scored 97.63 per cent in Class XII and also took admission in B Com (Hons) at SRCC. P S D Vendhan from Coimbatore, with 97.37 per cent in Class XII,chose Economics (Hons).
For most students, the honours courses at Delhi University proved a big draw as these are not available in colleges closer home.
Nandini R.,who scored 95.23 in Class XII,is still waiting to fulfill her dream of studying at SRCC. I will take admission somewhere else for now and wait for the second cut-off list. I will definitely switch if I make it, she said.
Students from other southern states, such as Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, have also joined the college in good numbers this year, said Jain. We have attracted many students from these states as well as Mumbai and Kolkata this year, he said.
