Simple celebrations at double centurion Shikhar Dhawan’s home

Shikhar Dhawan's family,residing in Vikas Puri,decided to keep their celebrations simple.

After Shikhar Dhawan smashed his record 150-ball 248 for India A against South Africa A,his family,residing in Vikas Puri,decided to keep their celebrations simple. For once,they were not bothered by byte-hungry news channels or asked to pose for photographs. Instead,the family enjoyed his knock in their own way. Shikhar’s father,MP Dhawan followed his son’s progress from his office,while his sister Shreshtha caught up with sleep,waking up occasionally to check the score online and keep her mother updated. Shikhar’s mother kept herself busy cooking for the family. When Shikhar broke the Test record for the fastest debut century back in March,the family was unable to sit down to a home-cooked meal. Sitting in her living room and stroking their dog,her mother said,”I guess we will all go the gurudwara and pray for Shikhar’s success and thank god for having blessed him with success. This is his time and he has waited very long for it. With the tri-nation series not being telecast on television,Shikhar’s sister informed Sportline that it was her brother’s coach Madan Sharma who first phoned them to tell them about Shikhar’s century.

“He called my father in his factory to tell him that Shikhar had crossed 100. Then my father called home and we were all jumping with joy that he was still batting. Then I went to sleep and when I woke up after some time,he was batting on 166 and I thought how good will it be if he gets past 200. This time I really wanted him to get past the double hundred,since he had missed it during his first Test.

My wishful thinking came true. When I checked the internet,he had gotten out on 248 from just 150 balls. The television channels were buzzing with the news of Shikhar’s new record. What a day for all of us,” she said.
