Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said on Saturday that the Allahabad blast targeting UP Cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi,in which The Indian Express staffer Vijay Pratap Singh was injured, was a sign of the desperation among criminal gangs and mafias in the state.

She said her government had taken strict action against such elements, seizing their properties worth about Rs 233 crore, and that this had left them desperate.

Mayawati said that her government has seized properties of SP MLA Vijay Mishra and relative Dilip Mishra accused in the Allahabad blast worth about Rs 6.20 crore and Rs 4.16 crore respectively. She said Vijay Mishra had illegal properties worth Rs 50 crore in Delhi.

The Allahabad blast had left one dead while six persons, including Institutional Finance Minister Nandi, had suffered serious injuries.

Criticising the opposition parties for targeting her government on the law and order front,Mayawati asked them to introspect the crimes that had occurred during their regime. Why had the Samajwadi Party not taken any action against its MLA Vijay Mishra, she asked, adding that Dilip had even beaten up Nandi before the Assembly elections in 2007 to discourage him from contesting.

Mayawati said, there are 30 cases lodged against Dilip Mishra, while Vijay Mishras name figures in 58 cases. She accused the former SP government of withdrawing six cases against Vijay Mishra. She also praised the police for cracking the Allahabad case and arresting two,who had already confessed.

The SP,on the other hand, questioned the haste with which the case had been solved, and the party MLA named when similar cases took years to solve. Alleging that Vijay Mishra was being framed as had resisted BSP pressure to cross over to their side, the party demanded a CBI probe into the attack.

The attack is the result of a conflict among BSP leaders of Allahabad over the sharing of the huge wealth generated by loot of public property, and through government department contracts and mining of Ganga sand, said leader of the opposition Shivpal Singh Yadav. Mayawatis allegations against the SP are a desperate attempt by her to cover up this battle over sharing of spoils.
