The accident occurred near a power station in Sector 16B, where a man named Vishnu was riding his bike with his son sitting in front of him near the handlebars.
A 3-year-old boy died, and his neighbor was injured after a van allegedly hit their bike from behind in Dwarka on Saturday night, the police said. The accused, identified as Deepak (27), the alleged driver of the van, has been apprehended, officers added.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday night, when one Vishnu was riding his motorcycle near a power station in Sector 16B, with his three-year-old neighbour seated near the handlebar. Vishnu was taking the boy for a ride when the incident happened, officers added.
“On Saturday night, information regarding an accident behind the power house, Sector 16B, Dwarka, was received at Dwarka North police station. The driver of the van had allegedly hit a motorcycle ridden by Vishnu, with his three-year-old neighbour sitting in front. Both were then taken to IG hospital, where the child was declared brought dead and Vishnu was found injured, unfit to give a statement,” said a senior police officer.
When police arrived at the scene of the incident, they found Deepak being beaten up by bystanders, officers said.
“Upon reaching the spot, police found a person being beaten by the public. He was later identified as Deepak (27), the driver of the minivan,” the officer said.
Police said Deepak has been apprehended adding that they are awaiting the medical report to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or not.\
According to the police, the crime team has conducted an inspection and collected exhibits from the scene. The vehicles involved in the accident have been seized under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), officers said.
A case has been registered under sections 106(1) (death by negligence), 125(A) (rash act endangering life), and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police added.
