Last week,Actionline had taken up the issue of the severe traffic problem in Hadapsar along with issues such as garbage disposal and encroachments. Here is what the authorities have to say on the action being planned by them:

Corporators in the area say they are trying to ease traffic congestion by widening roads as well as having parallel roads. Corporator and former mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale has undertaken the widening of the Solapur Road from 40-50 feet to 140 feet. “This has helped ease traffic congestion to a large extent and parallel link roads construction which would be undertaken shortly will help ease the traffic congestion in the area further,”she says.

Corporator Vijay Deshmukh said he has been repeatedly urging the traffic police to cancel unnecessary one-ways. “Certain areas which do not require the one ways should be opened up. The private bus parking at Gadital too should not continue and I have been pursuing the matter,”he said.

PMC is also to take an anti-encroachment drive in the first week of April. Both the corporators have said that they have rehabilitated as well helped displaced people for the widening of the road. “The encroachments are tremendous in the Mohammed wadi area and we are working towards evacuating the dwellers, said an employee from the Hadapsar ward office
