CBI to add disclaimer to most wanted list

After goofing up in the 'most wanted list',the CBI will put up a disclaimer in its updated list.

After goofing up in the most wanted list, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will come up with a disclaimer in the updated list on their website, saying that the agency is not responsible for the information provided by the states.

The CBI had taken off the list from their website after two of the fugitives mentioned therein turned out to be in India. The two also found a mention in the dossier supplied to Pakistan, demanding their arrest and extradition.

The Interpol wing of the CBI acts as a nodal agency for the states which request the agency to issue red notice through Interpol. The agency had more than 550 people from all over India on their most wanted list. Recently, the list came down to 160. The officials said they are yet to receive updated lists from the states.

The agency plans to write to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to take up the matter with the states. We have written to the states asking them to send an updated list of their most wanted people. The red notices were issued by Interpol on the request of CBI from the input provided by the states, said a senior CBI official. However,we have not received any replies from the states. Most states do not have data and have expressed their inability to update the list. We have decided that the our local team in these states will contact the authorities and try to verify the names against whom the red notices have been issued, added the official.

The agency plans that once they receive the updated list from states, they will provide a disclaimer in each case. The disclaimer will mention that the CBI is not responsible for the information that is being provided by the states.
