An open discussion forum,’Devil’s Advocate’ where unexplored ideas like e-voting,token system for educational aid were expressed at “Srujan” on Monday.
Tata Motors’ GET-41 had organised a four-day techno-cultural event called Srujan 09. The festival came to an end with an open discussion forum,Devil’s Advocate, where the topic of discussion was,”‘How can we change India?” The experts panel comprised of Bharat Kakade,vice-president,Manibhai Research Institute, formerly BAIF,A K Ghose, deputy general manager,Human Resource,Tata Motors Pune,Amit Rora,Ankur Agrawal and Rohit Saroj.
Speaking on the growth of agriculture in India,Bharat Kakade said that the development of agriculture should be given more importance in India. “A system should be developed to provide a direct market for the sale of agricultural products. A committee should be formed within the farming community so that the grants provided by the government reach the needy farmers.” He also said that the village management should develop agricultural schools in the villages to help farmers.
A K Ghose,in his address, said that the greatest threat to India’s progress today is terrorism. “People in the Naxalite areas constantly live a life of fear and apprehension. Indian army and police force must be empowered with the latest technology to combat such attacks. On one hand we see our cricketers getting the best facilities while on the other hand our army and police officers are not being provided with even the basic weapons. The recent terrorist attacks on Mumbai displayed this harsh reality. It is the responsibility of the youth of the country to change this.”
The GETs present in the audience put forth a variety of ideas for India’s progress and raised a number of questions regarding the recent happenings in the country. In spite of being a democratic country,a large number of citizens could not exercise their vote due to the fallacies of the elections commission system. This system does not allow youth who are away from their hometowns to exercise their vote due to the large amount of paper work involved and hence many were of the opinion that a system of e-voting with a provision of a registration number should be made, they said. Prior to the event,The Amazing Race,an event which tested the physical and mental dexterity of the participants was won by the team of Chinmay Tophkhane and Dhananjay Chile and the team of Adrit Mishra and Priyanka Khera came in a close second place. In the technical contest,’Reverse ‘O’ Mania, the team of Manish Barlingay,Bhavesh Mestry,Varsha Jadhav and Sharanya Krishnamurthy won the first place. While in the event,Brain Matter, the first place was won by Amit Kumar Saraf while the team of Priyanka Khera and Adrit Mishra won the second place.
