Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency: Also known as the Blue City, Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency is among the 25 parliamentary seats in Rajasthan, encompassing eight assembly segments in the state.
In both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat secured victory in Jodhpur for two consecutive terms, triumphing over Chandresh Kumari of the Congress, which marked a significant shift as the BJP successfully penetrated a seat traditionally held by the Congress.
The upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Jodhpur constituency are slated for April 26, during the second phase of the polls, between the sitting BJP MP and Union Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Karan Singh Uchiyarda, a new contender from the Congress.
In addition to being the sitting MP from the Jodhpur Lok Sabha constituency, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is currently also the Union Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and National General Secretary of the BJP, Kisan Morcha.
Shekhawat has demonstrated his political prowess by winning the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Jodhpur constituency, which was historically regarded as a stronghold of the Congress party, by defending his seat against Vaibhav Gehlot, the son of Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan from Jodhpur, with a substantial margin of 2.74 lakh votes in 2019.
Similarly, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Shekhawat emerged victorious with a record-breaking margin of 4,10,051 votes, defeating Chandresh Kumari Katoch of the Congress. As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach, Shekhawat is set to contest again, aiming to secure a hat-trick victory in the Jodhpur constituency.
Karan Singh Uchiyarda is a Congress candidate for the Jodhpur seat and will be contesting against sitting MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
