(PTI Photo)J&K assembly election 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing an election rally in Katra urged the people to vote for BJP to end the dynastic politics of Congress, National Congress (NC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that this election is about shaping Jammu and Kashmir’s future. “BJP is committed to the multi-sectorial development of Jammu, which was ignored by Congress, NC, and PDP for years,” he said.
He assured the crowd of his government’s focus on generating local employment, stating, “It’s my pledge that the new generation will not suffer under the rule of three families.” Referring to the positive changes since 2019, PM Modi remarked, “All schools and colleges in J&K are now functioning normally. Youths are carrying pens, not stones. Instead of hearing news of schools being burned, we now hear about the construction of AIIMS, IITs, and other infrastructure.”

Indirectly referring to the National Conference, Congress, and People’s Democratic Party, the Prime Minister criticized their role in the region’s past instability. He said, “For 35 years, Kashmir remained closed for 3,000 days, but since 2019, it hasn’t been shut down for even eight hours. Do you want to return to those days of hartals?” PM Modi also reiterated his government’s promise to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, assuring the people that the BJP would fulfil this commitment. He encouraged the public to break previous voting records in the second phase of the elections, scheduled for September 25. The remaining phases of the elections will take place on September 25 and October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.

'We want unemployment and inflation to end': Voter as he casts his vote in J&K's Kishtwar
As polling for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections began on Wednesday, a voter after casting his vote in state's Kishtwar told news agency ANI, "Today, elections are being held after 10 years. We want unemployment and inflation to end, keeping this in mind, we have voted. We want people to vote in large numbers."
