Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency: The Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency, situated in Uttar Pradesh, stands as one of the state’s 80 constituencies and has traditionally served as a stronghold for the Samajwadi Party (SP).

In the last two Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav in 2019 and Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2014 won with substantial victories over BJP candidates Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua and Ramakant Yadav, respectively.

However, in 2022, Akhilesh Yadav resigned, leading to by-elections 2022. The BJP nominated Dinesh Lal Yadav to compete against Dharmendra Yadav from the SP, resulting in a closely contested battle where Dinesh Lal emerged victorious and assumed the role of MP.

Scheduled for May 25, 2024, as part of Phase 6, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Azamgarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh, will again witness an electoral battle between BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav against the SP’s Dharmendra Yadav.

Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua, a prominent actor in the Bhojpuri film industry, currently holds the position of Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Azamgarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), faced off against Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the Azamgarh constituency, with Akhilesh Yadav securing the win with 621,578 votes, while Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua received 361,704 votes, ultimately leading to his defeat.

However, in 2022, by-elections were held in Azamgarh, as Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav resigned from his seat after being elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Karhal constituency in Mainpuri district.

This by-election in 2022 saw a closely contested battle between the BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua and the SP’s Dharmendra Yadav, with Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua emerging victorious by a margin of 8,679 votes, marking a significant milestone for the BJP in the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) stronghold of Azamgarh.

Three-time MP from Lok Sabha, Dharmendra Yadav from Samajwadi Party has represented the Mainpuri constituency from 2004 to 2009 and Badaun constituency from 2009 to 2019.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Dharmendra Yadav, representing the Samajwadi Party (SP), contested and won from the Badaun constituency in Uttar Pradesh, followed by securing victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the same.

However, when Akhilesh Yadav, chief of the SP, resigned from Azamgarh in the by-elections of 2022, Dharmendra Yadav contested for the Azamgarh constituency, where Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua emerged victorious for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against him.
