Andhra Pradesh is among the states where elections are slated to be held alongside the Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission of India announced. The voting for the state’s 175 assembly seats will be held on May 13, with the counting of votes to take place on June 4.
In 2019, in the Andhra Pradesh 175-member Assembly, the ruling YSRCP managed to clinch 151 seats, while the TDP managed only 23 which got further reduced to 19 after the resignation of Ganta Srinivas Rao and the defection of 3 MLAs to YSRCP after the Assembly polls.
The 2019 polls were the first in Andhra Pradesh since the state’s bifurcation in 2014, forming Telangana. The current tenure of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, under Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is set to conclude in April.
