Two persons were killed while four others were seriously injured, after bus accident on a highway in northeastern Germany on Saturday, according to police.
The crash occurred at an exit from the A11 highway leading to a parking area near an interchange close to Prenzlau, northeast of Berlin, as reported by the German news agency dpa. Seven more passengers sustained minor injuries.
The bus overturned onto its side, with reports of no other vehicle being involved. The cause of the accident remains unclear. The victims were identified as a 29-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man.
Brandenburg state police spokesperson Beate Kardels confirmed that the bus was operated by FlixBus, Germany’s leading long-distance bus service provider, and was heading toward Poland.
FlixBus stated that the vehicle was travelling from Berlin to the Polish city of Szczecin, a journey of approximately 150 kilometres (93 miles), with 13 passengers and a driver onboard.
