(Photo: X/ @thenewregion)Iraq shopping mall fire news: In a tragic incident, at least 60 people were killed and 11 others were reported to be missing in a massive fire that took place in a shopping mall in eastern Iraq’s al-Kut city, Reuters reported quoting city’s health authorities and two police sources on Thursday.
The fire engulfed the hypermarket in al-Kut city and has till now reportedly killed 60 people, while the efforts to control the fire were on, state news agency reported citing the province’s governor.
Videos and images of the fire that engulfed the five-storey building in Iraq overnight on Thursday, have gone viral on social media as firefighters were trying to control the blaze.

A city health official said, “We have compiled a list of 59 victims whose identities have been confirmed, but one body was so badly burned that it has been extremely difficult to identify,” Reuters reported.
However, the videos and images doing rounds on social media could not be independently verified.
The state news agency INA, quoting the province’s governor reported, “We have filed lawsuits against the owner of the building and the mall.”
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but the governor said initial results from an investigation would be announced within 48 hours, INA reported.
