At least three Qatari diplomats were killed and two others were wounded in a car crash on Saturday near Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh while they were heading to Red Sea resort, health officials said, AP reported. The incident took place when the car, in which the Qatari diplomats were travelling, overturned about 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Sharm el-Sheikh, the officials said. The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to AP, said that diplomats were part of the protocol team of Qatar and were travelling to Egypt ahead of a high-level global summit to mark the first phase of ceasefire signed between Israel and militant group Hamas on US President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza. Though it wasn’t known if the diplomats were part of the negotiating team. Qatar, Egypt, the US and Turkey mediated the first phase of ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, though Turkey had joined the negotiation process earlier this month in Sharm el-Sheikh. The first phase includes a ceasefire, release of hostages and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The high-level summit will be held in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday and will be co-chaired by Egypt President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and US President Donald Trump, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency. The statement added that over two dozen world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and United Nations Secretary General António Guterres are set to attend the summit in Egypt.
