Month after reports of professional separation, Prince Harry directly addressed the persistent rumours surrounding his marriage to Meghan Markle, dismissing them as unfounded during the 2024 DealBook Summit in New York.
Speaking at the event hosted by The New York Times, the Duke of Sussex, 40, quipped about the relentless media speculation, saying, “Apparently we’ve bought or moved houses 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?”
Harry admitted the scrutiny can be overwhelming but shared his approach to handling it: “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it.” He also expressed empathy for those who perpetuate the rumours, joking, “The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls… Their hopes are built and built, and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”
The Duke acknowledged the likelihood of his remarks being misinterpreted, adding with a smile, “I have no doubt this interview will be spun or twisted somehow against me. Maybe the host will also be trolled relentlessly—for that, I can only apologise. But you did invite me, so it’s not my fault.”
Meanwhile, stepping onto the red carpet on Wednesday evening, the Duchess of Sussex posed for photographs in an elegant strapless Oscar de la Renta dress at the 2024 Paley Honors Fall Gala. S. The former Suits star attended the event to show her support for Tyler Perry, who was honoured with the top award by The Paley Center for Media.
The rumours stem from the couple’s decision to undertake independent professional engagements, a strategy reportedly dubbed a “twin-track” approach to enhance their image. Despite the speculation, Harry’s remarks make it clear that their marriage remains intact.
