(Representational/ File Photo)A single engine plane crashed in California’s Pomona on Sunday leaving the pilot and three others onboard injured and interrupting a major NHRA drag racing event.
The crash occurred as the plane tried to land at an airfield near the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, the authorities said. It happened at around 11:10 am near the 2700 block of Fairplex Drive, which is adjacent to Pomona’s dragstrip, said Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The firefighters added that the cause of the accident was not clear but the four occupants of the plane were injured. All four were hospitalized with minor to moderate injuries that were not considered life-threatening, said the Pomona Police Department.

Pomona police added “The airplane struck several vehicles on the ground, but no bystanders were struck or injured,” as reported by CBS News.
The NHRA drag racing event’s X page declared “RACING UPDATE: Racing is currently on hold at the In-N-Out Burger #NHRAFinals. Stay tuned for further updates.”

The NHRA Safety Safari and medical team responded to the crash and provided immediate services as required. According to a CBS News report, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident and the FAA said that the plane is a single-engine Piper PA-32.
The NHRA, in an official statement said, “We are investigating an apparent small plane crash near the dragstrip in Pomona while it was apparently attempting to land at nearby Brackett Field Airport on Sunday. Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident.”
As per an update by the NHRA, the broadcast time on FS1 championship was delayed from its original start of 4pm ET to 6pm ET.
