Los Angeles Protests Immigration Raids LIVE Updates: Amid the increase in protests across Los Angeles against the immigration drives in the area, President Donald Trump approved the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard members to help respond to any untoward incidents due to the agitation. The Pentagon also deployed about 700 Marines to Los Angeles on Monday to help National Guard as the protests against the immigration drive caused multiple disturbances and traffic disruptions across LA. Protesters set at least two Waymo self-driving cars on fire, and LAPD police chief said that at least 10 people have been arrested in clashes in downtown. The federal government has deployed Marines to Los Angeles, apart from National Guards.

Trump vs Newsom: US President Donald Trump has deployed at least 300 National Guards on ground in Los Angeles to maintain law and order and protect federal personnel and property. It is the first time that a US president has called in National Guards without the state’s approval. California Governor Gavin Newsom has said that the state will file a lawsuit against the Trump administration over deployment of the National Guard, and termed it “inflammatory”.

Why are people protesting? The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and demonstrators have clashed with each other since the past three days after dozens of people were detained by federal immigration agents. Intelligence officials believe the protesters are getting fuelled up by several factors, including immigration raids, National Guards deployment, protesters who fit the profile of “professional rioters” among others.
