At least 17 people have been injured in a multi-vehicle crash that took place on East Texas interstate on Saturday that led to the shutdown of a major interstate for hours. The wounded people have been admitted to nearby area hospitals, Associated Press reported.
According to Associated Press, Lindale Texas Fire Chief Jeremy LaRue said that none of the injuries which sent 17 people to hospital appeared to be life threatening.
LaRue added that the crash took place on Interstate 20 and involved two tractor-trailers and six passenger vehicles.
The AP report states that the crash took place on Saturday at about 4pm near Lindale, which is about 144 kilometers east of Dallas. The crash led to the closure of one of the major highways in Texas, Interstate 20.
Even after two hours of the accident, the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 were still shut down while the crews cleaned the oil and diesel fuel which was spilt on the road amid the crash, Fire Chief LaRue added.
Reports suggested that the Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of the accident which still remains to be known.
