A fire broke out late Friday night at Marina Pinnacle, a 67-storey residential and commercial building in Dubai Marina, leading to the safe evacuation of over 3,800 residents, Khaleej Times reported.

The Dubai Media Office (DMO) said in a series of posts on X that 3,820 residents from 764 apartments were evacuated without any injuries. Civil Defence teams worked for nearly six hours to put out the fire.

“Specialised teams successfully evacuated all residents from the 67-storey building, prioritising their health and safety throughout the operation. Efforts continue to fully contain the fire,” DMO said at 1.44am. An update at 2.21am confirmed that everyone had been safely evacuated.

According to eyewitnesses quoted by Khaleej Times, the fire started shortly after 9.30pm. A resident on the 49th floor said she woke up to the smell of smoke. “I heard my housemates calling me and we hurriedly went down the building in our pyjamas,” she said. “We could see thick smoke from the upper floors, maybe around the 60th.”

Another resident told the newspaper that firefighters were still trying to put out the blaze an hour after it started. Video footage taken by Khaleej Times at 11 pm showed flames spreading to more floors.

Ambulance crews and medical staff were present at the site to provide support. DMO said they were offering medical and mental health assistance to residents affected by the incident.

Some residents were seen carrying their pets as they waited outside in the humid night. One woman said she moved towards the nearby Marina Towers Tram Station for safety but could still smell the smoke.

This is not the first time Marina Pinnacle has caught fire. In May 2015, a kitchen incident triggered a fire on the 47th floor, which then spread to the floor above. Dubai Civil Defence brought it under control at the time.

Marina Pinnacle is also located near The Torch, another high-rise that experienced two major fires in 2015 and 2017. On Friday, a separate car fire was reported at Sulafa Tower parking, just steps away from Marina Pinnacle, a resident told Khaleej Times.

Authorities are now working with the building’s developer to provide temporary housing for those displaced.
