Who is Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, Indian-origin student found dead in Ohio?

Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, an Indian-origin student, was found dead in Ohio, United States, the Consulate General of India in New York said on Thursday. Benigeri’s death is the third such incident of India-origin student deaths in the US in recent weeks.

Benigeri was a student of the Lindner School of Business, Cincinnati.

As per a LinkedIn account, which is believed to be his, Benigeri has been pursuing a graduate degree in Business Statistics from Lindner School of Business, University of Cincinnati. The course introduced statistical methods and thinking to business students. Cincinnati University is located on Woodside Drive, Ohio. Before moving to the US, Benigeri had graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.

According to the Consulate General of India’s statement on Thursday, no foul play has been suspected. Benigeri’s family has been informed and they are expected to arrive in Ohio soon.

Benigeri’s death comes days after Neel Acharya, another Indian-origin student, was found dead near Purdue University in Indiana. Acharya was pursuing a double major at the prestigious university.

Before that, Vivek Saini, a 25-year-old Indian student was fatally attacked by a destitute drug addict in Lithonia city, Georgia. Last month, Akul B Dhawan, an 18-year-old Indian-American student, was found dead with signs of hypothermia on the back porch of a building near the University of Illinois. The student at the university had gone missing in the early hours of January 20 and was later found dead.
