Makar Sankranti 2025 Date: As the sun moves north, bringing longer days and warmer nights, India prepares to celebrate Makar Sankranti, a joyful and auspicious Hindu festival.

The harvest festival symbolises a significant shift in the astrological and agricultural cycles and is observed throughout India to worship Lord Surya, the Sun God when the sun enters Makara (Capricorn).

According to Hindu mythology, Sankranti was a divinity who slew the demon Sankarasur on the day after Makar Sankranti, also known as Karidin or Kinkrant. Similarly, Devi murdered the evil Kinkarasur.

Many regions of India observe the festival with kite flying, bonfires, and regional delicacies.
