Uttarakhand Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Uttarakhand has traditionally witnessed a close contest between BJP and Congress.Uttarakhand Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The 18th General Elections in Uttrakhand were concluded in phase 1, as all its five seats were under polling on Friday, April 19. Uttrakhand also followed the trend on drop in voter turnout in 2024, as it registered only 57.22 per cent in total, with Haridwar receiving the highest of 62.53 per cent, while Almora receiving the lowest of 48.74 per cent of voter turnout.
Uttarakhand has traditionally witnessed a close contest between BJP and Congress. Both parties see the state as an essential battleground for displaying and gaining supporters for their national narratives.
The ruling government of BJP-led NDA won all the Lok Sabha seats in the elections in both the 2014 and 2019 mega elections. The Assembly elections of 2022, saw INC taking small steps towards making a comeback in the political landscape of the state, which made Uttarakhand a test ground for national parties in the 18th Lok Sabha Elections, with the results influencing their national strategy and image. However, with BJP still in a firm position in both the state and centre, the opposition party has their task cut out for them, if they want to pose any threat to the ruling party.
The General Elections in the state of Uttarakhand are generally held in the first quarter of the election period, and with ECI (Election Commission of India) having the tradition of following the old trends, the state will once again see the polling on all their seats rounding off on the first day of the upcoming mega elections, i.e., on April 19.
Phase 1: Date of polling- April 19
As Uttarakhand holds a very small number of Lok Sabha seats in their account, the General Elections in the state are typically organised in a single phase. The scenario will once again be the same during the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, as the land of gods is all set to have their polling organised in a single phase.
Uttarakhand consists of a very small number of Lok Sabha seats, i.e., five, out of which one seat is reserved for the SC candidates. BJP at the moment holds complete dominance over the state politics as they won all the five seats in both 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
