All you need to know about the new RRTS project: The National Capital Region (NCR) is preparing for a significant transport upgrade with the construction of a new Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) connecting Gurugram and Greater Noida.
The 60-kilometre line is likely to connect Gurugram’s Rajiv Chowk to Noida Sector-142, Greater Noida’s Surajpur, and a stop at Bata Chowk in Faridabad.
The project, estimated at Rs 15,000 crore, has eight intermediate stations and aims to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reportedly visited the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal in Delhi to discuss RRTS corridor development and metro expansions.
It includes a prospective RRTS extension from Sarai Kale Khan to Karnal and a Gurugram metro extension to AIIMS in Badsa.
Further plans include connecting IGI Airport with key NCR hubs including Gurugram, Faridabad, and Jewar Airport via the RRTS network, in addition to connecting two additional lines from Palam Vihar to boost regional connectivity.
An expansion from Sarai Kale Khan to Rajasthan’s Dharuhera, Bawal, and Shahjahanpur is additionally being considered.
The Haryana government is seeking funding for the Gurugram Sector-56 to Panchgaon metro extension, with central clearance expected following the completion of the Detailed Project Report.
Meanwhile, the RRTS between Delhi and Meerut, which is already partially operational, might begin service from the capital as early as January 2025.
